The New York Mets probably still have a horrible taste in their mouth from the 2009 season. Disappointing is the nice version of what the fans were saying about that debacle of a season. Now that 2010 is just around the corner, the team and the fans can get back to business and look to show the world that they are still one of the favorites to take the division crown.
The Mets will once again be a contender for the East, but the competition is even tougher than it was last year. The Phillies now have Halladay in the fold and the Braves look pretty solid. However, the Mets are right there with both of these teams and if they keep it together, there is going to be some incredible baseball being played.
The Mets did not really get involved in the high priced bidding wars that other teams did, but they really did not have to do that. They have a good core of players, they just need to play. It all starts with the rotation that they will throw out there every night. Santana anchors a solid rotation and the team will only need about 4 runs anytime that he takes the mound to snag a win.
Fernando Nieve is going to get his shot this year and fans have every right to be excited about him. He has the talent to one day be an Ace and should rack up some serious wins in the bottom half of the rotation. If he is healthy and pitches to his potential, there should be at least 15 wins in the season for him.
David Wright continues to be the big draw for this team and you pretty much know what you are going to get from him every season. His home runs dipped last season for the first time ever, but he surely worked on getting the power back in his stroke during the off-season. He is the best pure hitter on the team and the offense will live and die with him.
The Mets have a great schedule to start the season. They are loaded up with many of the doormats of the league and if there are firing on all cylinders, they could come out of April with a nice little lead in the East. They play all but seven of their April games in their own house and that is something that they will have to take advantage of.
Mets fans should have quite a bit to be happy about. They have a solid offense at least two possible 15 game winners in their rotation. That schedule will allow them to get off to a monster start and hit the road with a lot of confidence. The Philadelphia Phillies Are Stacked For Another Run At The World Series

While the Philadelphia Phillies played the role of the bridesmaid last season, they are on a run that any team in the league would kill for. They have gotten back to the World Series in back to back seasons, a feat that is truly rare these days. They also managed to steal headlines all winter long and eventually got the pitcher that they coveted at the end of last season.
Cliff Lee made a huge difference for the Phillies at the tail end of 2009 and it could be argued that they never would have made it that far without him. This year, they are starting the season off with a true Ace in Halladay. They chose not to stack the deck and keep Lee, but this is a team that needs to be feared by the rest of the league.
A lot of their success is going to depend on whether or not Cole Hamels can get past his difficulties from last season. One of the main reasons that the Phillies went after Lee was because Hamels was just flat out not doing his job as the team Ace. Whether it was a senior year slump, arm troubles or a big head, nobody knows.
Hamels is going to have a huge advantage pitching out to the number two hole. If he is at his best, there may be one or two pitchers in the league as a number two that will match up against him. Moving down that one spot just may be the move that gets him his confidence back. Regardless, the Phillies need him to eat up innings and preserve the bullpen for the tail end of the rotation.
A great bullpen makes a huge difference and while they struggled at time last year, the Phillies owed quite few wins to this group of pitchers outright stopping teams and allowing this incredible offense to play catch up. Brad Lidge will look to put the blown saves from last season behind him and get close to the form that he had in 2008.
While the pitching will be fun to watch, this team is all about knocking it out of the stadium. Imagine being a manager and knowing that you have seven legitimate shots in your starting lineup that can hit 20 or more home runs! Who else has that other than possibly the Yankees? This is a team that is going to put on run scoring show every night.
The seats are always filled in Philadelphia, so if you plan on getting good seats to see some games, you better move fast. While there really are not bad seats in this incredible stadium, it is always nice to be closer to the field and really see the action. All signs point to another deep run into the playoff and the possibility of some retribution against the hated New York Yankees.

The Recipe For The Yankees In 2010: Rinse And Repeat

The burning question for most teams as the 2010 season starts is can they compete? The Yankees just want to know if they are going to repeat! This is a team that went on an incredible ride in 2009 and is looking to do more of the same this season. With the talent that they have, there is no reason to think otherwise.
There was not a team in baseball that was as good as the Yankees last year in the regular or post season. They ripped through the American League Playoffs like a hot knife through butter and then opened up a can of it on the Phillies in the World Series. Arod more than made up for any woes and actually got shortchanged in the ALCS for MVP.
Pitching for the Yankees is rarely a concern, but the last two years have been insane. Once again, Mr. Sabathia will take his turn every five days or so and he is backed up with a group of pitchers who all have 15 win potential. We can say this because they have all done it before. It is not a hard job to take when your starters all but guarantee you over 60 wins on their own.
Talking about the bullpen is almost a waste of time. We all know what happens when the call to the pen gets made and so does the rest of baseball. There is flat out no better closer in baseball than Rivera. He has missed exactly seven save opportunities over the last three years. Just about every closer in the league blew that many last season alone.
As far as offenses go, it just does not get any better. Rodriguez is one of, if not the premier player in the league. There are a lot of young stars in the league with big bats, but few of them are on the hot corner and even less have the all around talent that Arod has. This is pretty much the same team that put up 103 wins last year and they will get pretty close to that again in 2010.
The defending champs definitely have some challenges in the early part of the season, but then it is smooth sailing for a few weeks. It is hard to imagine that the Yankees will not come out of April with the lead to the division and a huge win record. The Bronx Bombers will be up to their usual again in 2010.
Yankees fans are probably in store for yet another magical season of Yankee Baseball. While it is difficult to get back to the World Series with everyone gunning for, who is going stop them? Get ready to go another great ride because it just may be deja vu all over again for the Yankees. While it may not be the Phillies that they face off against, there is a very good chance that they will be one of two teams playing in November.
