1. Wenceslas Square
This is Prague’s largest square and has played an extremely important role throughout the city’s history. This is where the Velvet Revolution began and where the occupation of the city by the Nazis and the communist takeover occurred.
2. Prague Castle
This attraction is situated on Castle Hill and is located on the far bank of the river from the main part of Prague city. Once you enter the walls of this old fortress you will find many wonderful things to see and do. Take a visit to the rooms that were once the home to Czech princesses and also head for the window which caused the start of the 20 Years War. But for those looking to just relax and enjoy views of the city then head to the stepped gardens below its walls.
3. Vyshehrad
If you want to get a real feel for the history of this city then this one of the 5 things you must see in Prague should be visited. This old fortress was built at the time when the city was founded and is a great place to wander around. Within the thick stone walls are several old shops and buildings along with the city’s National Cemetery and is where you will find the graves of some of the city’s most famous citizens. Beside the cemetery is a beautiful church that has colorful doors and which represent the ancient splendour of this city extremely well.
4. Astronomical Clock
The clock tower was built in 1410 and the clock housed within it is still functioning and provides very accurate data concerning a number of different astrological events. Every hour on the hour the clock chimes and from inside appears a number of wooden figures to entertain those who stop to look at it.
5. Old Town Square
Located in the very heart of the old town this one of the 5 things you must see in Prague has a number of different sights for you to enjoy. In one direction you are confronted by the Gothic Church with its golden spires that are unique to the city. Whereas in another direction you are able to enjoy the sites of the Classical Church which is very ornate and modern. But located in the very heart of this square is a statue of one of the city’s residents (Jan Hus) who in medieval times was burned at the stake.
